The online summative test for the Senior High Dressmaking course will evaluate students' understanding of key concepts learned throughout the curriculum. GRADE 10 SUMMATIVE TESTS

DRESSMAKING_SUMMATIVE TESTS

The summative tests in Dressmaking 10 will assess a variety of skills, techniques, and knowledge gained throughout the course. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in measuring, cutting, and sewing techniques, all fundamental to dressmaking. The tests cover the correct usage of sewing tools, understanding of fabric types, and methods for handling different materials, ensuring that each student can work with a range of fabrics. SHS_DRESSMAKING

Students explore topics such as measurement accuracy, stitching techniques, and seam finishes, which are crucial for creating high-quality garments. This course also emphasizes the importance of safety procedures in handling sewing equipment, ensuring students can work confidently and efficiently.

Moreover, the course encourages creativity and personal expression, as students learn how to adapt and modify patterns to suit their preferences or meet specific client needs. DRESSMAKING 10

Dressmaking 10 introduces students to essential sewing skills and garment-making techniques, providing a foundation in crafting well-made clothing. Students learn to use sewing tools, such as scissors, needles, and measuring tapes, and become proficient with sewing machine basics, including threading and adjusting tension. The course covers fabric selection, focusing on understanding fabric types, grain, and preparation for sewing. Students are also introduced to reading and interpreting patterns, with lessons on basic pattern alterations to ensure a good fit.

Core sewing techniques are practiced, such as seams, hems, darts, pleats, and finishing methods, including zippers and buttonholes. Through hands-on projects, students apply these skills to create simple garments, like skirts or dresses, with attention to detail and quality. The course also encourages creative expression, allowing students to make design choices that reflect their personal style. By the end, students have a solid grounding in dressmaking fundamentals, ready to take on more complex projects in future courses.

DRESSMAKING 9

Making your own clothes is extremely satisfying. You can obtain a perfect fit and have something completely unique, But it’s difficult knowing where to start. Commercial paper pattern sizes bear no relation to shop-bought, and all those fabrics to choose from?  If you’d like to learn to make your own clothes, but are struggling to get started, then this short course will give you a great foundation.

I’ll guide you through interpreting  patterns. Using the best size, choosing the right fabric, cutting and sewing – all with help at hand. You will need to bring your choice of paper pattern, the fabric and everything else you need to complete the garment.  thread, interfacing, etc .

You must already have competent sewing skills i.e. have completed a Beginners sewing course, be confident using a sewing machine and be able to thread up and wind bobbins, and to sew neat, accurate seams.
